OpenAI has announced a significant expansion of Daybreak, its AI cybersecurity platform, focused on democratizing vulnerability patching at machine speed.

GPT-5.5-Cyber — The security-specialized model is now available in its full version (previously only in permissive preview). It reached 85.6% on the CyberGym benchmark, compared to 81.8% for standard GPT-5.5, with the ability to handle real-world bugs from 188 open-source projects.

Codex Security — The plugin has been updated based on internal and customer usage learnings, accelerating vulnerability discovery and patching in existing systems while preventing new vulnerabilities from reaching production. Since its preview in March, it has scanned over 30 million commits across more than 30,000 codebases.

Patch the Planet — An initiative founded in partnership with Trail of Bits, HackerOne, and independent researchers to help widely used open-source projects move from findings to fixes. More than 30 projects have committed to participate, including cURL, Go, Python, Sigstore, and pyca/cryptography.

OpenAI also launched the Daybreak Cyber Partner Program, enabling security partners to extend these benefits to more organizations.
