Midjourney Medical: AI image generator becomes healthtech with 60-second full-body scanner
Midjourney, the company known for its AI image generator, surprised the market by announcing a medical division — Midjourney Medical — with a full-body ultrasonic scanner that promises to revolutionize diagnostic imaging.
The device, dubbed Ultrasonic CT, can perform a complete body scan in just 60 seconds — something an MRI takes about 45 minutes to accomplish. The technology uses half a million tiny ultrasonic sensors mounted on a ring, combined with AI for real-time image reconstruction.
How it works: the patient steps into a shallow pool of warm water and slowly descends via an elevator at 2 inches (5 cm) per second. As they pass through the sensor ring, ultrasonic waves scan the body from every angle. Each sensor acts as both a tiny speaker and microphone, generating terabytes of data per second.
Midjourney describes the experience as "as powerful as an MRI, as casual as a trip to the spa." The company plans to open the Midjourney Spa for quick, affordable scans.
