Last Wednesday, the French city of Evian-les-Bains hosted a historic meeting between the top AI CEOs and G7 leaders. Dario Amodei (Anthropic), Sam Altman (OpenAI) and Demis Hassabis (Google DeepMind) sat side by side to discuss the future of AI regulation.

Amodei warned heads of state to resist the temptation to splinter in their regulatory approaches, arguing that democratic countries should work together to prevent threat actors from accessing the most advanced tools. The warning comes at a delicate moment: the Trump administration continues to impose abrupt export controls on Anthropic new Fable and Mythos models on national security grounds.

Despite their competitive tensions, Altman and Hassabis agreed with Amodei. Altman said G7 nations should have access to AI-powered cybersecurity tools, while Hassabis called for international collaboration on safety research.

French President Emmanuel Macron mediated the meeting as part of the G7 agenda, which also included executives like Marc Benioff (Salesforce). The summit signals a move toward global AI governance, even amid increasingly restrictive national policies.
